This speaks for itself and there really isn’t anything that I could add to it.

I watch this presidential election with absolute disbelieve.  I follow the news in Europe and the rest of the word and my disbelieve turns into sadness.

Has this world gone mad? Haven’t we learned anything from the past? Haven’t we all seen what hate will do?

How can we in the civilized world be so uncivilized? Whether they are fans of Donald Trump, supporters of Brexit or Marine Le Pen voters in France, all the “angry voters” have one thing in common, they are outraged and full of hate and fear.

The outrage is directed against elites in politics and in the business community; it is directed against the established political parties, against the mainstream media, against free trade and -of course- against immigration.

Fueled by hate they march the streets. “Take back control” was one of the main slogans used by Brexit supporters in the United Kingdom; “make America great again” is a slogan we hear here from Donald Trump.

75% of the youth in Great Britain didn’t support Brexit, they wanted to stay in the EU. 75% of the youth here in the United States of America doesn’t support Donald Trump. Will they be heard?

Many of the older voters want to go back in time (like that would be even possible). Life around them has changed and they don’t like it. The future of the youth is at stake; I hope we will not force them into darkness. I hope history will not repeat itself.

Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love… Our aim must never be to defeat or humiliate the white man, but to win his friendship and understanding.

Whilst I agree with your general theme, I would just like to comment on the use of figures – manipulated by both sides in the UK referendum – the 75% of the youth who voted to stay in EU were only 40% of the people 18-25 entitled to vote. That 60% did not is to my mind a far more worrying figure. That is assuming the 40/60% is accurate.

    • Yes, you are right. I am afraid we will have the same outcome here in the U.S. in this election, IF indeed Hilary Clinton and Trump will be the nominees. It’s hard to get the young people to vote, when they feel they are not represented.

  4. Well Said. Martin Luther quotes perfect. Even Yoda . Only love, light and peace. Hate can not stop hate. Like I always say you can’t put out a fire with fire. Has the world gone mad – and why can’t they see it. We are all human – colour is just biology – melanin in fact.

    Great post. I wish we could get back with the programme of love harmony, why hate – why. Are we trying to do a dinosaur mark two ?

  6. The reason why Trudeau won in Canada is because the young people came out en masse and voted for him. He represented a fresh new hope.

    The young people need to vote. Unfortunately they will only vote in major numbers if a candidate can appeal to them. Unfortunately in the US, I don’t see a candidate that has the potential to reach the young vote with the same success.

    • Bernie Sanders would be the nominee for the democratic party, IF we wouldn’t have super-delegates who already voted for Clinton BEFORE the primaries.

      Bernie Sanders has new ideas and the youth came out and voted for him, even though he was unknown.

      He got me all fired up, what makes me flinch thinking that I will have to vote for the same old again. I am reading the Canadian news and I like Trudeau, he does a good job.

      • It’s a bit ironic that the youth would be inspired by an older man like Bernie Sanders. If nothing else, that says a lot about him!

        It remains to be seen whether Trudeau will do a good job, but in the meantime, he clearly inspires hope and optimism. I, for one, would LOVE to see that continue.

  7. Can’t say it much better than King and Yoda. I also wish the youth would vote. They have the power to change the world – not overnight, not necessarily in a year, but over a decade? Absolutely!
    Hate is self-consuming, and the voices of love and reason need to speak with acts of kindness and compassion. I think it’s going to be a long road.

Something I wrote about fear almost a year ago: “The fight on the right in this country is the fight for the stomach-punch-simple description of current troubles that simultaneously sounds like a stomach-punch-simple solution. It is a demagogue’s dream-come-true. At any given moment, there is always a portion of the population that is ready to hate, and some of these people vote. At any moment, there is always a portion that feels that some mythic yesterday is better than today and that tomorrow will be worse. Some of these people vote. Seven days a week, there is a portion of the population that feels ignored and does not notice that this feeling of being ignored is all they care about. Ironically, they vote for politicians who reinforce this by telling them that they are being ignored. It feels like attention is being paid, but isn’t. Richard Nixon’s ‘silent majority’ was neither, but once again eager politicians are harumphing their way toward building coalitions of the not-at-all-disenfranchised and yet perpetually angry.”

    • I remember your post. I think many of us have written posts about politics and voters behaviors lately. I promised myself not to be quiet, but to speak up. It might not change a think but at least we tried.

  10. I agree with you, and have said similar things on my blog. The problem here with the youth vote in the referendum was the turnout. Yes, 75% of the 18-24 year olds who voted did want to stay in the EU. But only 36% of them voted – half the overall average turn out. If they could have been bothered to vote the result would have been different.

    • The Youth doesn’t vote when they think they won’t be heard.
      Watch it, same will happen here in the U.S. They youth wants Bernie Sanders and not Clinton. They want change to move forward, but won’t get it. I have a hard time voting for Hillary myself. I am afraid the young generation will not show up on the polls in our election either.
      As for Brexit, I didn’t think it was possible and I can see why some didn’t even bother to vote. Why vote for something that seem to be so surreal.

      • It has always been a problem encouraging young people to take an interest in politics until, sadly, it is too late! I have a horrible feeling you will be proved right about your election. I just hope it doesn’t end up with the unspeakable, unwanted outcome like we did here.

        • Hillary Clinton is a risk candidate, too many don’t like her. She can’t reach across the aisle.
          I live in a Republican State (hard too believe) my friends and neighbors will in the end have to vote for Trump, even though they don’t like him and don’t trust him. But they will because they just can’t stand Hillary Clinton.

          I am scared that we will have a Donald for President.
