For Rich or Poor! – Friday Fictioneers

Tears were running down her cheeks. Soon all their belongings would be crammed into a storage unit.
“Just a small hiccup, don’t worry, the bank will work with us,” he had said, and now, somebody else will move into the beautiful house, they had called home for so many years.
Her Dad had warned her, “He is no good,” he had said, but she didn’t want to hear it.
He was a gambler, and now all was lost.
A soft ring interrupts her thoughts; slowly she picks up the phone.  It’s him.
“Hello….” she whispers.
“Honey, guess what? You won’t believe it?

  1. No, don’t listen to him. Run, run far away. The problem with gamblers they don’t stop even if they have won. There are always more opportunities to lose. Great story. I really felt for her.

    • I just watched an old Paul Newman movie, where he lost everything he had in a poker game and then tried to win it back. Can you imagine?
      We have a casino close by, where we live. I love to go to restaurant, to eat snow crab legs until I drop under the table.
      The amount of people gambling there is scary. The machine always wins, but I guess it’s all about the thrill.


  2. Woooooah- talk about a cliffhanger! I know the odds are stacked against the gamblers in a casino, but maybe this can end like one of those “lucky night in vegas” movies, and the douchebag husband wins a fortune on a quarter machine?
