Friday Fictioneers – The Castle

Photo Prompt  Jan Wayne Fields

‘I am looking forward to camping with you.’

She smiled at me, and as always it made my heart melt.

‘This is the most beautiful place I have ever seen,’ she said and clapped her hands like a little girl.

Even after so many years, I am fascinated by her ability to share her joy.

For her, it’s a castle, and I am her Prince, no matter where we are.

All of a sudden the tent looks inviting and I look forward to camping as well.

We will make it work, we will not be homeless for too long.

This is this weeks entry for the Friday Fictioneers. The 100-word photo challenge is held by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Please, click >>>here<<< and join the fun. It’s amazing how much we can tell with just a hundred words.

  1. Beautiful! I think I am married to that woman, except she would not be so happy to be living in a tent, based on our last experience. 🙂

  2. I really enjoyed the subtlety of your take on the prompt. She was very sweet and unaffected. I had a friend a bit like that at school. Had such an appreciation for the little things and always so excited when you’d give her a present.
Great twist in the last line.

  3. Ah, that was very well told – and so much in that last line! You built a lovelt relationship in so few words, and then the killer at the end. Nicely done. And you’re right – we can cram a hell of a lot in 100 words 🙂
