Every time I see train tracks I feel a longing inside me, a yearning that I cannot explain.
A train ride, that’s the only time I know for sure where I am going.
There is no turning left or right, it’s a straight line to my destination.
The in between is filled with moving pictures. People, cars, and houses pass by my window for a short while. The world outside doesn’t stand still while I am moving.
I can’t help but think about leaving right now, to a place far away with peace and harmony, to a place where people get along.

That was indeed an enjoyable ride. I long for that day to come…

I really love the concept of trainrides too… when I was young I interrailed and I loved the feeling how free you where until you boarded the train, then you had no choice… just moving forward.

I think it’s an “European thing,” the love for train rides. 🙂

That’s because our trains over here in North America are awful. I mean, they’re not actually awful… I quite like them, but they get delayed a lot and aren’t as glamourised as air travel. There’s definitely a stigma over here

It’s not just the delay, it’s the whole system.

yeah, I agree with you there. Also the whole system is heavily subsidised by the government, so if you have time to kill, it’s a great way to get across the coninent

Very lyrical and rhythmic like I imagine riding a train would be. I like the line “The world outside doesn’t stand still while I am moving. “

Lovely and reflective. I would like to go to that place, too. Our trains here have become so chaotic and most often late that you never quite know how and if you get where you want to.

I looks like we will need more than one train. 🙂

Your last sentence – if only such a place existed.

It’s true, that it is one or the few times you know were you are going, unless one gets on the wrong train 🙂. Loved the story,

It’s really amazing how you were able to sum up the train-riding experience in only a hundred words. Lyrical and concise- nice job!

Dear Bridget,
I feel like asking Toto if he thinks there really is such a place and breaking into “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” Nonetheless, I love the story. I took a long train trip last spring and really enjoyed it. Nicely done.

I always enjoyed riding the train back in Europe. I miss it here in the U.S. I wish it would be more popular.
