John F. Kennedy or Ronald Reagan?

I read Trump’s tweets today in the morning and it’s becoming more and more apparent, he is attacking the free press. He is attacking journalism and free speech. He is attacking our constitution.

It does make me wonder, will I be still allowed to blog tomorrow? And you, how about you? Will you be still here?

Every time Trump reads something about him and his regime (I apologize, but I have to use that word) he denies the facts and calls it “fake news.” He is attacking CNN, the New York Times, and many others. He is attacking journalists, and reporters left and right -who are doing their job.

Informing us about facts is their job, and they are finally doing it. Most of them have slept through the election. Now the woke up -it was about time.

Today in the morning  Donald Trump attacked the press again. Not just that, he doesn’t seem to see the protesters either.

Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting.

The failing @nytimes writes total fiction concerning me. They have gotten it wrong for two years, and now are making up stories & sources!

Reading this transported me back in time and I could see myself sitting at my desk in boarding school in the South of German. I was in 11th grade, and we had just talked about the UdSSR (Soviet Union) and the situation of the Russian people.

I remember that a girl raised her hand. When called she asked the teacher why the Russian people didn’t just leave. “Don’t they know they could have a better life somewhere else?”

They don’t get the information you are getting. They don’t have access to newspapers like you do. The Russian government filters the information, and so they only read articles about how wonderful life in Russia is. They don’t get all the facts. The don’t get the truth.  The government controls the media.”

I was only 16, but I understood what I had just heard -we all did. What a privilege it was to be able to read the news about everything that was going on in the world. I always felt sorry for the people in Russia and in Eastern Germany. What a privilege it is to have access to a free press.

The Freedom of the Press in the United States is protected by the First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Donald Trump is attacking the First Amendment. This is not about politics anymore. This is not about “left” and “right.”

Let’s not talk about the internet trolls, the haters, and the liars. Let’s leave all the brainwashed people out of it. Let’s talk about the good and honest people in this country on both sides of the aisles.  Maybe Trump is what we needed to unite. Perhaps we can overcome our differences if we remember our roots?

How about I listen to  J.F. Kennedy, and you listen to Ronald Reagan or vise versa?

People we are in trouble, we are in serious trouble. We need to support our newspapers and our journalists, we need to support the media, the ones that are unafraid to give us facts.

We have all the information on our fingertips. Whatever we read -online or offline- we can fact check in an instant.

I don’t believe in lying. Do you?

  1. Great post. Politics is a dirty Business. These Politicians are just doing whatever they want with us. He cannot change our laws. We have rights to Freedom of Speech and Press. These people don’t care about us. They care about their pockets. It’s all about Power and Money.

  2. This reminds me of one of my favourite demotivational posters (from that says “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.” What frightens me in particular are the number of people I would have otherwise considered well-informed and moderate in opinion who actually believe the rhetoric and support Trump and his agenda.

What is wrong with the world right now?!!

  3. You have to wonder how long he can maintain the hoax he is committing before the mainstream of people on his side of politics twig to what is going on….the changes to the financial system and the benefits the rich will gain from those must tell people something about his agenda….but its an old trick to lie about everything to a point where people don’t know and can’t recognise the truth….at least it is among uneducated people, the US audience is for the most part an educated group and as long as the free press keeps reporting the truth, the truth will prevail as will you laws…..I like the points you raised today…

    • Michael, that puzzles me as well. How long can people be blindsided before they are able to see?

I am always afraid to mention “education” but you I believe it’s the most valid point.

Today I bought a subscription from the New York Times and got a good deal on the New Yorker and Vanity Fair -both I read because I love sarcasm and because Donald tweeted against them.

Thank you for reading and thank you for commenting.

      • Trump is providing the world with so much entertainment but at the same time I do fear for mankind when I see the total disregard he shows for the welfare of those he should be caring for. Any thinking person would have known he stands for the rich getting richer on the backs of the struggling poor.

        • You know, I wonder about that since a year. How in the world can you vote for a Billionaire (if he is one) who got rich on the system we are trying to lose.
Who in the world would think that he (or them) might be interested in the poor mans problem, if they got rich by on the cost of the middle class that the screw over whenever they get a chance to do so.

          • Precisely. But if you say what people want to hear then you gain credibility. Last night on our TV there was a program which featured trumps campaign director for NY and said trump knew all he had to say was anything that made ordinary people think he could make their world a better one. He never believed any of it, and I wonder what he actually does believe in. Sorry the answer is himself.

    • “the US audience is for the most part an educated group” except in “the Rust Belt” where the Trump voters want their old (high-paying and usually unionized) jobs back. They don’t realize that those types of jobs, requiring mainly manual labor without much thinking and therefore requiring only minimal mental acuity, are not coming back. Many are too old to be interested in re-educating themselves for today’s and tomorrow’s jobs.
