Yes, doubt!

doubt

Religion made the word DOUBT a bad word. “Don’t doubt what I tell you, child. Believe what I say.” Isn’t it like saying, don’t you dare question anything, because I don’t have any answers?

DOUBT means we are skeptical and uncertain about something and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I don’t wish to be a person, that is always full of herself, arrogance doesn’t suit me.

“The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.”
― Bertrand Russell

Look around in this world just right now. Too many believe that everything they read somewhere is true. They don’t question themselves, neither do they question the source.

Doubt is part of knowledge, not more and not less. It keeps us in check when we start to be too sure about ourselves. It doesn’t mean we are fearful, it doesn’t mean we are scared. It just means that we ask some questions, either about ourselves or our performance.

Doubt is part of learning. We learn; we grow!

Telling people not to doubt, is like telling them to stay small. That is so much nonsense and it’s dangerous.

Yes, go ahead and doubt yourself and others. Ask questions when you feel like it. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

“The greater the artist, the greater the doubt. Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize.”

― Robert Hughes

  1. I’ve always loved the Socratic approach to argument, using questions to create doubt and more critical thought.

  2. I think another piece that’s missing today is critical thinking. This is one of the reasons I HATE FaceBook. Anytime we go to social media for news and accept it as gospel there’s a problem. And like you said people not only believe everything they read they pass the misinformation on to others never checking sources or just using a little common sense to question. Your post resonates deeply with me because it seems the smarter we get with all the technological advances the stupider we become. Love the quotes!!

  3. Not to sound completely jaded, but I’ve always questioned and/or doubted everything. Except what my grandparents told me. For some reason, I believed every lesson they imparted. 😃
