I am Woman (too)

Helen Reddy Quote: “I am woman, hear me roar.” (9 wallpapers) - Quotefancy

I am always surrounded by women. Most of them are my customers, my students, my friends and neighbors. The last months I have met more women than ever before. I had dipped my toes into charity work, and it turns out to be as infectious as they had warned me about.

When the fog lifts, and you see with your own eyes the disaster and the pain that had been hidden underneath, there is no turning back.

During the time of our nationwide log-down, I have started to collect bras and feminine hygiene products. Personally, I haven’t done much other than emptying out my own drawers, but I have the spread the word. It seems I am a good sales person, persistent and not ashamed to beg when needed.

In the first round I got ‘only’ 147 bras and a box full of tampons, pads, shampoos and soaps. Three month later I fulfilled my donation dream with ease -so much had been given. Almost 200 toothbrushes, 200 mini toothpastes, boxes and boxed full with underwear and bras. Shampoos and conditioners, deodorant wipes, baby wipes and everything a woman needs to clean herself to feel decent -and 200+ bras.

There is a loyalty between women, that cannot be explained. It’s an invisible bond, we understand each other. Most of us don’t want to talk about politics anymore, yet somehow we do, even if it’s just a heavy dose of eye-rolling, to show our disapproval. There has been lots of eye-rolling this year, some even cried when they talked about our situation here in the U.S.

Women’s rights have been cut and many of us feel that the new overly religious supreme court nomination is a slap in the face to all of us. We believe in diversity, we look beyond what the eye can see.

Women will decide this election. So often underestimated, so strong, more powerful than we look. Most of us still full with determination, dreams and hopes that we are not willing to give up.

Many of us are religious, but not blinded by religion. The education of the heart and the mind, has suited us well. We all know what it means to be a woman in a man’s world. We have been downgraded and belittled, we all had our share of sexism and harassments, many of us have experienced gender discrimination and unequal pay first hand.

Donald Trump doesn’t stand a chance with the educated, working women. Donald Trump does not stand a chance with women who truly have values.

This election will be decided by women!

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
I am invincible
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
‘Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
‘Cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

Oh yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
I am invincible…

  1. Good job getting all those donations to the place they will do the most good. I have made some great friends while doing volunteer work. You are making a difference. And if we want the world, and our country to change, we all need to get involved. Thank you for reminding us of that.

  2. Bridget you set the bar for the rest of us. Creating a volunteer opportunity to help others, well, how great is that. We spoke months ago about it, and now look how it has taken off. There is a great bond between most women. I always loved this quote: Be the woman who fixes another woman’s crown, without telling the world that it was crooked.
