Looking for the Gulf Motel

There should be nothing here I don’t remember . . .

The Gulf Motel with mermaid lampposts
and ship’s wheel in the lobby should still be
rising out of the sand like a cake decoration.
My brother and I should still be pretending
we don’t know our parents, embarrassing us
as they roll the luggage cart past the front desk
loaded with our scruffy suitcases, two-dozen
loaves of Cuban bread, brown bags bulging

It’s tough to be a fly

The other day at dusk, a little fly found it’s way into our home. It flew right by me when I let the dogs out.  I noticed it but didn’t pay too much attention.

The next day, I opened the microwave to warm up some leftovers for lunch and sure enough, the little fly took its chance and flew right into it.  Continue reading

Walls or Bridges?
