Can what I feel right now ever be topped? I don’t think that’s possible. Today I witnessed something that I thought wasn’t doable. I was allowed to go back in time thirteen years ago and look at myself on that special night in May 2010.

As a society, we have become heartless.

Homeless people who are living in tents bothered us. “They are too close,” we say, and grumble about a woman who sleeps in her car, and who has chosen our safe subdivision to do so.

Between Not Enough and Too Much

She invited me to stop at her little shop the next time my grandma and I would drive down to the village. “You come by and pick out what you want.” I could not wait. I had helped at our neighbor’s farm for days and even though I was young, my work and my assistance had been appreciated.

Sacrifices or love without ego?

“Sacrifice.” It means to endure a loss, to give something up that is worth a lot, for the sake of others. It means putting someone else’s needs above your own. To sacrifice is to suffer so that others benefit from it.  The suffering part, that’s what bothers me. 

That’s how you grow corn the right way

There was a farmer who grew excellent quality corn. Every year he won the award for the best grown corn. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. “How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year? ” the reporter asked.

Beside the Point~!

I dislike the whole idea of paying it forward, because ever since that movie, many people go around and brag with what they have done. Receipts with a generous tip or a kind message get photographed and are being showed at Facebook and other social media sites. Paying it forward became a sport, a competition for many. It’s like people are under peer pressure “let me top what my neighbor just did.”

One day Mr. Miller was bagging some early potatoes for me. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily apprising a basket of freshly picked green peas.
