Are you kidding me?

dailyprompt

Always when I think it can’t get any worse, there is another prompt that proves me wrong. Today’s question is a great example:

“What’s messier right now — your bedroom or you computer’s desktop (or your favorite device’s home screen)? Tell us how and why it got to that state.”

You have to be kidding me right?

Possible answers:

A. Both are messy, because I didn’t clean.

B. Neither are messy, because I did clean.

C. ZZZZZZZ can’t answer at the moment, because word press has put my brain to sleep (again).

Motion to rename THE DAILY PROMPT to:

A. Daily rerun

B. Daily Downer (thanks Marilyn)

C. Daily turn-off

What is a writing prompt, or what should it be?

  • Writing prompts focus on a topic or an issue, followed by questions. The purpose of an prompt is to inspire a response in the form of an essay, which will test your writing, reasoning and analysis skills.

The keyword here is “inspire”. For Heaven’s sake it can’t be that complicated. Look in your overflowing mailbox and use some of the suggestions, that are piling up in there.

I don’t feel inspired by prompts that repeat themselves over and over. WordPress….look around and see what the daily prompt’s have become. Some die-hard prompters, who stay here since years, have started to ignore the prompts all together and use them for self-promotion only. Other’s answer with a link, that points us, the reader, to an older post, that they had already written before, as an answer to the same damn question.

If we are not wanted here anymore, why don’t you man up and just say so? If the guys who run the prompts are worn out, then give the task to someone else and give them a break.

If you try to get rid of bloggers, who use this for self promotion only (what I could understand) then give them a hint. Your house, your rules…make rules. It’s not that complicated, but please don’t bore us to death.

As for me, I enjoyed the prompts until they went down hill. Some of the daily prompts were brilliant, they inspired me to write and research and I came back for more.

Once upon a time, I opened the daily prompt with excitement. These days are gone.

CHANGE IT, PLEASE~!

  1. I’ve only been around since October, but I’ve gotta say I don’t find much inspiring there. I have some other prompts sources on my blog under Writing Prompts in the top menu. I’ve pulled from them now and then.

    • Things are finally starting to slow down at work now that Fall is just around the corner, so I’m starting drafts on a few things I’m working on getting posted, catching up on reading everyone’s posts, and checking out the Daily Prompt subjects… I think their post “____ is the new___” was the last one that really inspired me, but that was 14 prompts ago… lol ☺ However, as someone newer to blogging, I do find it fun to read other bloggers interpretation of the prompts, and that part does kinda inspire me.

    • I find this so sad. I enjoyed the prompts. I liked the writing part as much as I liked the reading part. It was so great to see “who” wrote “what” to the same subject. It definitely widened my horizon.

I feel the same way. I will continue to look to see if things change, but won’t bother with an uninteresting rerun anymore.

  3. We have given up and stop complaining too. A group of bloggers like me, Marilyn and Angloswiss have started doing our own stuff and we link it with grid just to let others know what we have written today. We come here to say hello to each other rather than get inspired which is out of question now a days. Prompts are dead.

  4. As I tend to rebel against rules and impositions (when I don’t work) I thought it was my fault to find boring the WPprompts…..
I entirely agree with you , dear Bridget , and thanks for giving voice to this point!
