“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something. So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.” (Neil Gaiman)
I tried to write a post with a profound message about the old and the New year, but I don’t think I could say it better than Neil Gaiman.
I have high hopes for the coming year. As always I wish for peace and health, love and laughter -all of it sprinkled with a little bit common sense.
2017 was loud and eventful, I hope 2018 will be quieter, with less violence and less hate and ultimately fewer victims. Perhaps, this will be the year when human beings will begin to understand each other. Maybe in the coming year the name of the gods, the color of the skin, gender, race and all our other insignificant differences won’t matter anymore.
I know it’s wishful thinking, but it’s the dream of many.
As for me, I will make mistakes -that’s a given.
May we all make beautiful, glorious mistakes in the New Year and forever!
Well, I’m sure I’ve already made some mistakes this year, and we’re only a week in!

May all our mistakes be of the that-will-make-a-great-funny-story variety … perhaps with a sprinkling of epic genius tossed in 🙂

Thanks no, I take myself and my life too seriously as I feel like having a creative job with my mistakes and my failure. Without me!

what do you find hard to believe? Making mistakes is human and we learn about mistakes, but at least we do not want to fail your big target…so I can laugh about me mistakes a lot, as long as I see any other chance to follow still my targets.

I was referring to her comment that she was still waiting for her genius. She’s a very intelligent and talented woman – I’m confident that she has many sparks of genius.

May you have a joy-filled and exciting 2018! I’ve made so many mistakes in my life but I’m also one who attempts to do and learn new things too. I usually beat myself up over it. So, thank you for the new perspective. 😊

I think you have added Neil Gaiman very well, Peter. These are wonderful wishes and intentions. I still not keen on making mistakes …; ) … but to try something new is great … thank you, I also hope that the new year will be more peaceful and beautiful!

My husband always says to his team be they students, post grads or senior scientists … making mistakes means that you are doing …. I wish you and yours a year filled only with good surprises and a few dreams come true along the way to add a bit of glitter and sparkle. Peace, content, love, laughter – may they all make up the fabric of your life

I was taught that through the mistakes we make so we learn. I’ve proved it to myself a number of times. Best wishes for the new year and I look forward to reading more of your posts. Take care.

Reblogged this on Peter's pondering and commented:
Sending this seasonal succinct, second hand sentiment because it is far better than I could have put into words. Happy New Year!
