The Bluebird of Happiness

The beggar man and the mighty king are only different in name,
For they are treated just the same by fate.

Today a smile and tomorrow tears,
We’re never sure what’s in store,
So learn your lesson before too late,

Cause life is sweet, tender and complete
When you find the bluebird of happiness.

You will find perfect peace of mind
When you find the bluebird of happiness.

And when he sings to you
Though you’re deep and blue

You will see a ray of light come through
And you must sing his song, as you go along,
When you find the bluebird of happiness.

(Durante speaks)
The poet and his pen
The peasant with his flowers
It makes no difference who you are, it’s all the same somehow

The king upon his throne
The jester at his feet
The shop girl
The actors
The woman on the street

It’s a life of smiles, and a life of tears
It’s a life of hopes, and a life of fears

Jimmy Durant often plays in my workroom. Our late love affair began later in my life when I moved to the United States. That’s the beauty of learning a language as an adult, you get to know, translate and understand certain lyrics and texts differently.

“The Bluebird of Happiness” is my song lyric Sunday post, just because it came up on my playlist today and it made me smile today.

  1. I haven’t heard this song in years! Durante was a part of my childhood and he always made me smile. I haven’t actually remembered him in a very long time, and this was just perfect. Thank you for reviving some very nice memories, Bridget.
